A well-researched and accurate report will contain footnotes or a bibliography. The footnote or bibliographical information cite the source or sources you used for your paper. Footnotes can also be used to further explain what you conveying. When you write something like “ 40 is the gross national product (GNP) of XYZ country1 “ you would put a tiny elevated number at the end of the sentence so the reader can refer to your footnote at the bottom of the page or bibliography at the end of the report that corresponds to the number one.

Creating this footnote number at the end of text on Lotus Notes is easy to do. You just need to superscript this number at the end of the sentence..

Step 1

Open Lotus Notes as you normally would. Then create or open the email you want to add the footnote number / superscript numbers to.

Step 2

Click so that the cursor is on the same position where you want to add your footnote number.

Step 3

Right click. A list of options to choose from will appear

Step 4

Click on “Text Properties”

Step 5

A small window called “Text” will appear.

Step 6

There is a small section called “Style” in the right side of the text window. Click “Superscript” A check mark will appear.

Step 7

Now type in your footnote / bibliography number. Your number will appear about half the size of the sentence words and will be raised up nearly over the last character.

Step 8

Unless you want to add another superscript number for another footnote reference, right click again.

Step 9

Go back into text properties and uncheck “superscript” by clicking on it.

That should do it. You now have that little number above your sentence. Now get out there and start citing your sources!

Lotus is a pretty decent email program with a lot of really simple but great to use features that people overlook. One is the strikethrough line.  Ever want to cross something off in an email but keep it visible to others? A strikethrough line can do that for you. I wrote an article on how to strikethrough text and linked it below:

How to Add Strike Out Text Easy on Lotus

This might happen to you someday... you are printing out a multiple page Lotus Notes email and the text keeps getting more and more massive to the point where way, way too many pages are printing out and you are wasting ink at the same time.   Sounds crazy if you've never seen it, but it happens and I know how to fix it. I linked the post on stopping the 'big' text below:
